So, we’ve developed this Fact Sheet that puts the information in language you can understand. If you still have questions about your policy, please call us to discuss it with one of our qualified representatives. Please remember that this fact sheet is a guideline only, and that your auto policy may have different coverages and exclusions. Who is covered under your policy? You, if your name appears on the Declarations page of the policy, and your spouse, if they live at the same address. Of course, you are only covered if you are driving with a valid driver’s license, and are still living at the address on the policy. (If you change your address, call your agent to notify them of the change.) If you allow someone to drive your car with your permission, that person is covered, too. Where are you covered? Your insurance is in effect throughout the US and its territories, Puerto Rico and Canada. (If you are traveling to Canada, contact your agent for a “Canadian card” that provides proof of proper insurance). If you drive outside of these areas, you’ll need special insurance coverage. What types of vehicles of eligible for Private Passenger Auto Policy? Any standard car, sedan, or SUV. Also included in this category are pickups and vans that weigh less than 10,000 lbs and are not used for delivery or transportation of goods and materials. Trailers that are designed to be pulled by a private passenger vehicle are included. Lastly, vehicles used for business or any vehicles with business signage. (Please check your policy to make sure that all of your vehicles that fit the descriptions above are listed on the Declarations page.) What’s Covered? Different auto policies cover different things, but the options are generally broken down as follows: Liability Coverage. This protects the insured (you) against claims or law suits for bodily injury or property damage resulting from the operations of your vehicle. Medical Payments Coverage. This covers payments for medical expenses from bodily injuries caused by a car accident. Uninsured Motorist Coverage. This provides protection if an insured is injured by an uninsured motorist, or a hit-and-run driver. Coverage For Damage To Your Vehicle. This provides coverage for physical damage to your car and to certain nonowned vehicles. For instance, if you accidently hit a curb, this coverage will pay to repair the dents (after you’ve paid the deductible). This is sometimes called “collision coverage.” We recommend the following minimums for your auto liability limits: Bodily Injury: $250,000/$500,000 Property Damage: $100,000 Medical Payments: $10,000 Towing: $50 per disablement Rental Reimbursement: $40 per day with a max per loss of $1200 If you have less than these limits, give us a call at 357-2199. We can normally increase your coverage for less than $40 per year per vehicle. What’s Not Covered? Here are some of the most common exclusions, but please read your policy for a full listing and description, as this may vary. Property damage to any property being transported that is owned, rented or used by insured. (For instance, if your laptop was in your car and was damaged because of a car accident, it would not be covered. However, it may be covered under your homeowners policy.) Any injury to an employee using your car while working for you. If you are using your vehicle as a bus or taxi and getting paid for it, you are not covered while you are doing so. If you are operating such a business, you need special insurance coverage. Call us. Some business uses are not covered. Check with us to see if you’re protected. If you’re racing your car, you’re not covered while you are doing so. If your vehicle is not designed for public roads, or has less that four wheels. Your radio, stereo, tape deck, CD player or any other sound or audio equipment that is not “permanently” installed in your car. Also excluded are CB radios, telephones, 2-way radios, scanning monitor receivers, television monitor receivers, video cassette recorders, audio cassette recorders, or personal computers. Custom furnishings or equipment in any pick up or van. (Special coverages are available for this). Would you like to learn more about your auto insurance options?
